Music
is a listener's art and this
course concerns itself with just that: learning to listen. We will find ways to better understand and listen to many pieces and
styles of music. Survey of World Music is a course designed to help you learn and better
understand the skills required to hear music from varying places, times and
cultures from around the world. The goal of the course is to provide the
student a basic vocabulary of music, to teach musical and cultural literacy by
examining a number of styles and traditions, to sharpen listening and critical
skills, and to develop the ability to present ideas about music in writing.
